The enemies of elastin and collagen are free radicals, electron hungry molecules that attack proteins causing them to lose shape. When free radicals come into contact with collagen or elastin proteins, they ‘steal’ electrons changing the shape of the protein, once out of shape, it can no longer serve it’s purpose - shape is everything. As we age, and as free radicals take their toll on the collagen and elastin in our skin, our skin loses its elasticity and it’s strength. Free radicals do unfortunately exist naturally within our body as a waste product of our metabolic system, but their concentrations are also increased by environmental factors such as UV, radiation, pollution, smoking and poor diet.

Peptides-the building block of collagen and elastin

Peptides are incredibly important amino acids responsible for the creation of proteins such as keratin and collagen. These proteins help to give the skin its strength and without them, the skin can change texture and lose its plumpness. When we apply peptide serum or cream topically to the skin, our skin cells are kickstarted into action, quickly building new collagen and elastin leaving the skin feeling hydrated and firm.

Vitamin C for bright and youthful skin

Vitamin C plays a crucial role in the healthy and optimal functioning of the body but also displays its powerful antioxidant property on the skin. This it does by tackling signs of skin ageing as it helps to protect it from age-accelerating aggressors from the environment such as UV, cigarette smoke and pollution. Regular use helps the complexion look brighter and smoother, while reducing fine lines, wrinkles and photo damage.

    Retinol

Anyone who is following some sort of skincare regimen would’ve probably heard of Retinol. Also known as vitamin A, it's arguably one of the most famous and effective anti-aging ingredient, but can also treat a handful of other common skin niggles including texture, dark spots, and acne. Unfortunately, Retinol comes with some unwanted side effects making it unsuitable for some people with very sensitive skin. That's where Retinyl Palmitate comes in- the main active ingredient in our Retinol serum.

    What Is Retinyl Palmitate?

Retinyl Palmitate also known as Vitamin A Palmitate, is the mildest form of retinoid and an option for those with extremely sensitive skin who desire to experience the amazing benefits of retinol but without the irritation. Despite its mildness, Retinyl Palmitate has been shown to still deliver the same results as the harsh retinol would and in a gentler, more sustainable and safer way.

On absorption into the skin, Retinyl Palmitate is converted into Retinoic Acid through a process catalysed by an enzyme in the body.

Benefits of Retinyl Palmitate to the skin

Retinyl palmitate treats a long list of skincare concerns including fine lines, wrinkles, uneven texture, and dark spots. It also boosts collagen production, the proteins responsible for keeping skin firm and smooth.

    * boosts collagen synthesis in the skin,

    *minimizes fine lines and wrinkles,

*smoothens the texture of the skin

    *tackles uneven skin tone

    *firms and smoothens skin

    * tackles other skin niggles just as the harsher retinol would including dark spots issues.

Peptides and Vitamin C working together

While peptides are pretty brilliant in their own right at creating skin-boosting proteins, they really come into their own when combined with active ingredients such as Vitamin C. This is because Vitamin C helps to protect the skin from environmental aggressors responsible for creating oxidative stress and free radicals. These hidden nasties can cause the breakdown of proteins such as collagen and elastin. In a nutshell, Vitamin C helps to defend or protect the cellular structures that peptides are working hard to create.

Why Can’t All Be Combined in the Same Formulation? I hear you ask..

Combining acids including Vitamin C with peptides is not recommended because (at a low pH in which acids function), the peptides will undergo processes such as deamination and oxidation, which denature or compromise the activity of the peptides, rendering them ineffective. Experts recommend layering them in such a manner that will allow each set of actives to perform their job on the skin. Therefore, it’s Vitamin C first on cleansed face, allowing some time for full absorption before your peptides and a suitable moisturiser if not incorporate into your serum. As always, sunscreen is a must if using products containing vitamin C or Retinol. Never use Vitamin C and Retinol together. Experts recommend using Vitamin C in the day time and Retinol at night. Peptides may be used at night after Retinol if preferred, to allow the duo perform their repairing and rebuilding jobs whilst you sleep.

Collagen, made up of protein, is really the main building block of skin, giving the skin its smooth, and youthful appearance. As we age, collagen is lost, and this gives way to aged, wrinkled looking skin. When the amino acids (protein) in collagen are broken down they create peptides. The presence of these peptides signal to the skin that it has lost collagen and the production of more is necessary.

One of the most effective peptides in skin care is Matrixyl 3000. This is made up of palmitoyl tripeptide and palmitoyl terapeptide. These peptides work to mimic the appearance of broken down collagen, triggering collagen synthesis by the skin.
It is a tried and tested truly effective anti-aging ingredient used by many people including males and females. Its top-notch reputation makes it one of the most loved peptides. Plus, it has the studies backing the results!

    Some of the many benefits of Matrixyl;

    • Youth-boosting peptide

    • Increased firmness and decreased sagging

•. Improved hydration and moisture retention.

    CoQ10

CoQ10 seeks out and neutralizes free radicals, reducing their concentrations and minimizing their effect on collagen and elastin in the skin. Without molecules like Coq10 our skin would dramatically degrade. The levels of Coq10 in a person is highest in childhood and reduces with age.
