The full mechanism of our skin is a very complex inter-related system, but in every person it largely consists of two key proteins – the protein elastin, a spring like protein that gives our skin its elasticity, and the protein collagen, a fiber like protein that gives our skin its strength. These proteins are the building blocks of our skin and when they become damaged, our skin suffers, the result being tired, inelastic skin and most unfortunately, wrinkles.
The enemies of elastin and collagen are free radicals, electron hungry molecules that attack proteins causing them to lose shape. When free radicals come into contact with collagen or elastin proteins, they ‘steal’ electrons changing the shape of the protein, once out of shape, it can no longer serve it’s purpose - shape is everything. What Is Retinyl Palmitate?
There are four different forms of retinoids that are used in skincare all of which are vitamin A derivatives. Retinoic acid (also known as tretinoin) is the most potent retinoid and only available with a prescription. On the other side of the spectrum is retinyl palmitate, the mildest form of retinoid, which is available in some over-the-counter products.
Retinyl Palmitate also known as Vitamin A Palmitate, is the mildest form of retinoid and an option for those with extremely sensitive skin who desire to experience the amazing benefits of retinol but without the irritation. Despite its mildness, Retinyl Palmitate has been shown to still deliver the same results as the harsh retinol would and in a gentler, more sustainable and safer way.
On absorption into the skin, Retinyl Palmitate is converted into Retinoic Acid through a process catalysed by an enzyme in the body.

Usage Recommendations: Apply to cleansed and pat-dried face using fingertips to pat and evenly spread without rubbing. Use only at night and wear suncream at daytime as Retinyl Palmitate increases sensitivity to sun. It is common to experience some mild tingling with retinol application but this usually clears away shortly. Discontinue use if irritation persists. If new to retinol usage, start gradually by using once or twice a week until your skin builds up tolerance. Not suitable for those with very sensitive skin and those with inflammation-prone skin.
